To improve GraphQL API reliability, Contentful will introduce a limit of 40,000 expanded fragment spreads per request.

Expanded fragment spreads count fragment usages after resolving nested fragment references. Queries at or below the limit are unaffected.

Starting on the effective date, queries exceeding 40,000 expanded fragment spreads will return HTTP 400 with the error message: "Query cannot be executed. The maximum allowed expanded fragment spreads is 40000. Simplify the query by reducing repeated nested fragment spreads."

This change affects applications that generate GraphQL queries containing extensive repetition across nested fragments. Most applications will not require changes.

The fragment spread expansion limit is independent of your space’s query-complexity allowance.
